Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 and the upcoming Mango update will likely be a hit with Windows enthusiasts, but Android and Apple devices are still taking up most of the mobile space. If Microsoft is to be a serious player in the mobile market, turning the mobile experience into an extension of the desktop might be their best move.


If Microsoft could enable Windows Phone 7 users to turn their mobile devices into an extension of their desktop computers, and make the experience consistent across both devices, people would be more likely to consider Windows Phone 7 devices rather than iPhones or Android devices. Reasons why Microsoft may not go this route include concerns about Windows 7 PC sales taking a hit, and a serious lack of a vision for the future.
