Many in the IT industry have predicted the end of the PC era, and some believe that we have already entered it. Others believe that we are in the middle passage–that while the countdown may have begun, we continue to carry multiple ways of accessing information, and still cling to our old, outdated technologies while embracing the new technological frontier.
The Post-PC era is a blessing and a curse to Microsoft. They see Windows 8 as a new paradigm, a shift in the way consumers will use internet-connected devices. The desktop computer is still alive and well in the IT industry, but the consumer industry is another ballgame. The iOS, OSX Lion, Windows 8, ChromeOS and other operating systems are changing the way people experience computing, and their expectations are evolving as well.
