Microsoft Announces the Date for Windows 8.1 Launch

Beginning at 12:00 a.m. on October 18 in New Zealand, or 4:00 a.m. October 17 in Redmond, Washington, Windows 8.1 will begin downloading onto computers around the world as a free update for consumers currently on the less then desired Windows 8 OS via the Windows online Store. The update will also be available at retail stores and also on new devices beginning October 18. The company said it would launch the final version of the update this fall, but did not specify a date.
