Microsoft this week announced its Windows Azure Cloud Appliance, a new appliance that can be used by Microsoft partners to provide new cloud services in their data centers. The primary use of the appliance’s server capacity will be for business apps.

By combining Windows Azure, SQL Azure and specific hardware designed for Microsoft infrastructures, developers and resellers can run apps in a private cloud that exists in their own data center, and manage the services through a Microsoft System Center portal.
