Microsoft to Develop a New Kinect-like Controller Which Applies Sound Waves

Think the Kinect Xbox 360 is amazing? Then you’re really going to love with the folks at Microsoft Research have developed. The new gesture based Kinect motion controller makes use of a little known theory called Doppler Effect which allows the unit to detect gestures in-air within the vicinity of the device. What’s even more interesting about this research is that it works without the need for any additional hardware. The new Microsoft project has been dubbed “SoundWave” and will simply utilize the standard speakers and microphones found on just about all PC based computers.
