Microsoft provided some insight recently at the 2011 SQL PASS Summit as to the future of its Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Professional, lovingly referred to by developers as “Data Dude”. The software eventually joined the Visual Studio 2010 suite of tools.

As of the release of SQL Server 2012, codenamed “Denali,” Data Dude in Visual Studio 2010 was basically replaced by SQL Server Developer Tools, which are codenamed “Juneau”. Last week it was also announced that SQL Server Developer Tools is now called SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), and is integrated into the Visual Studio shell.
