Many online shops have already placed their faith in Microsoft’s Azure Platform as a Service, but the latest updates may come with unexpected surprises in the form of additional fees. A feature called server side in-memory caching boosts the performance of hosted .NET apps–but it’s a service that comes with extra costs.

Another new aspect of Windows Azure storage is a geo replication feature which auto-replicates data to a secondary data center that is located in the same region as the first data center, and this comes at no cost. However, if you should choose to utilize a secondary server outside of the region, expect another additional fee. And the list goes on.
